Richard Manasseh

Richard Manasseh's research focuses on wave modes and oscillators in fluids and their linear and nonlinear interactions. His active projects are on extracting data relevant to climate change from the
sounds of breaking ocean waves, ocean wave-power machines and coastal
protection, underwater sound control for defence applications, and fundamentals
of bushfire smoke dispersal. He has also recently led projects on the
interaction of ultrasound with microbubbles and live cells for medical
diagnostics and therapeutics, and the interaction of ultrasound with droplets for food processing. He has served as both President and Vice-President of the Australasian Fluid Mechanics Society.

Andreas Schröder
(German Aerospace Center, Germany)

Prof. Dr. Andreas Schröder is senior scientist and group leader for PIV and STB at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology in Göttingen and Professor for Image Based Measurement Techniques at the Brandenburg University of Technology in Germany. His research interests are the development and application of optical field measurement techniques for aerodynamic, -elastic and -acoustic research and turbulent flow diagnostics using Stereo- and 3D PIV, BOS and 3D Lagrangian Particle Tracking (Shake-The-Box) with subsequent Data Assimilation using Navier-Stokes constraints. He received his PhD degree from the Georg-August University in Göttingen in 2001 with a research work on non-linear stages of transitional boundary layer flows. Since 2002 he is organizing the international PIV Course http://pivcourse.dlr.de.

Guoqing Wang
(Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China)

Dr. Guoqing Wang is an Associate Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He is known for his work in advanced laser diagnostics, reducing NOx emissions in low-carbon combustion, and mitigating thermoacoustic instabilities in combustion processes. He is dedicated to developing innovative, environmentally responsible solutions for carbon-free combustion technology.
He received his B.S. from the University of Science and Technology of China in Thermal Science and Energy Engineering (2013) and his M.S. from the same university (2016). He earned his Ph.D. from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2019, under Prof. Fei Qi's supervision. His postdoctoral journey includes significant contributions at the Clean Combustion Research Center, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia, and as a Postdoctoral Researcher at ETH Zürich, Switzerland, in the Combustion and Acoustics for Power & Propulsion Systems Lab. His research has earned him 41 peer-reviewed SCI papers, including the ASPACC2021 Best Paper Award (2023) and the Best Paper Award at the China National Symposium on Combustion (2019).

Stefanie Gutschmidt

Stefanie Gutschmidt is Associate Professor in Dynamics and Vibrations in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Canterbury, in Christchurch, New Zealand. She earned her doctoral degree in Applied Mechanics from Darmstadt University of Technology, Darmstadt, Germany in 2005 working on ultrasonic travelling wave motors and actuators. From 2005 to 2008 she was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel and the University of Liege, in Liege, Belgium, during which years she focused on and specialised in nonlinear coupled oscillator and array dynamics. A/Prof Gutschmidt started at the University of Canterbury as a lecturer in Dynamics and Vibrations in 2009 and now leads the Dynamics Systems and Listening Labs.
Her research activities revolve around the broad subjects of nonlinear dynamics & vibrations, MEMS and NEMS technology, coupled oscillators and array dynamics, fluid dynamics of arrays, fluid-structure interactions, bio-sensors, acoustics and sound detection technology, and energy harvesting technology. Within her well-recognised expertise of coupled oscillators and arrays, she has a long-standing collaboration with various research teams at the University of Technology Ilmenau in Germany, with which she also holds an ongoing visiting professorship for the last 10+ years.

Moran Wang
(Tsinghua University, China)

Moran Wang is a Professor of Fluid Mechanics and Thermophysics at Tsinghua University. He obtained Bachelor and PhD degrees from Tsinghua University, and held postdoc positions in Johns Hopkins University and University of California of USA. He worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory as an Oppenheimer Fellow. He has been a full professor at Tsinghua University since 2011. He is working on micro/nanoscale fluid mechanics, transport in porous media, non-equilibrium thermodynamics, nonlinear heat & mass transfer, and interfacial science. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers on international journals which gained over 13k citations based on Google Scholar Reports (H-index: 58). Prof. Wang has been serving as editorial board members for several international journals including “International Journal of Mechanical Sciences”, “Journal of Porous Media”, “Energy Science and Engineering”, “Journal of Colloids and Interface Science”, “Journal of Fluid Engineering-ASME” and so on. He has been invited to contribute comprehensive reviews on “Physics Reports”, “Material Science and Engineering R: Reports”, “Progress in Materials Science” and so on. He was awarded J.R. Oppenheimer Fellowship in 2008, Interpore P&G Award in 2019 and Fellow of IMMS in 2022.

Hajime Tanaka

Hajime Tanaka is currently Professor Emeritus and Senior Program Advisor at the University of Tokyo. Throughout his career, Tanaka has engaged in comprehensive research on soft matter physics and liquid matter physics, encompassing both experimental and theoretical approaches. His focus is on understanding systems with spatiotemporally hierarchical structures and identifying commonalities between soft and liquid matter. His diverse research spans phase transition dynamics, pattern formation, nonlinear rheology, water physics, liquid-liquid transition, glass transition, and crystallization. Recognized for his contributions, Tanaka received awards, including the Society of Polymer Science Award (1997) and the Humboldt Research Award (2006). He was honored as a Fellow of the Institute of Physics in 2007.

Weiwei Zhang

Wei-Wei Zhang is Chang Jiang Scholars and Excellent Young Scientists in Northwestern Polytechnical University. He received his PhD degree at NPU in 2006. He research on artificial intelligence applications in fluid mechanics including unsteady aerodynamics, aeroelastics, and flow control. He has published over 100 articles in premier international journals. He is now Director of the International Joint Institute of Intelligence in Fluid Mechanics. He is Associate Editors of Aerospace Science and Technology, Theoretical And Applied Mechanics Letters and Advances in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics.

Pedro M. Reis

Pedro Miguel Reis is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. Prof. Reis received a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Manchester, UK (1999), a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Mathematics (Part III Maths) from St. John’s College and DAMTP, University of Cambridge (2000) and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Manchester (2004). He was a postdoc at the City College of New York (2004-2005) and at the CNRS/ESPCI in Paris (2005-2007). He joined MIT in 2007 as an Instructor in Applied Mathematics. In 2010 he moved to MIT’s School of Engineering, with dual appointments in Mechanical Engineering and Civil & Environmental Engineering, first as the Esther and Harold E. Edgerton Assistant Professor and, since the summer of 2014 as Gilbert W. Winslow Associate Professor. In October 2013, the Popular Science magazine named Prof. Reis to its 2013 “Brilliant 10” list of young stars in Science and Technology. In 2021, he was the President of the Society of Engineering Science. Prof. Reis has also received the 2014 CAREER Award (NSF), the 2016 Thomas J.R. Hughes Young Investigator Award (Applied Mechanics Division of the ASME), the 2016 GSOFT Early Career Award for Soft Matter Research (APS), and he is a Fellow of the APS.

Kevin Nolan

After completing his Ph.D. at Kyoto University, he did a postdoctoral fellowship at Ritsumeikan University, Shiga (near Kyoto), Japan.
